Wild Hockey Initiation Program for 4-6 Year Olds

FOR 4-6 YEAR OLD GIRLS & BOYS - LIMITED TO 40 SPOTS

OVERVIEW

Designed as an entry point for both boys and girls who are looking to learn ice hockey and enjoy the fastest game on Earth.  It is widely accepted in the hockey world that kids who get an early start with hockey gain a big advantage as they start on their hockey journeys.  More importantly, however, is the opportunity to have alot of fun, meet other great kids and enjoy a wholesome activity.   Players  who register for this program will be on the ice at least two times a week doing skating, skills development and small area games. There is limited travel involved and the cost is designed to be manageable.

We highly recommend completing Learn to Skate and Rookies Hockey before starting WHIP in the Fall.

SUMMARY

A 20+ week program of power skating, skills development and small area games for boys and girls between 4 and 6 years old running from September to March.  Players will be on the ice for at least 2 hours per week: the cost of the program is only $850 for 48 hours of instruction plus in-house and limited travel games and/or tournaments.

WHIP skill development is enhanced by the constant and consistent exposure to excellent coaching. The family experience is enhanced by reduced financial burden and reduced time commitment. The player's ability to compete for WILD teams in the future is greatly enhanced because of the level of instruction.

  • Kids will have at least 2 hours per week of ice time.

  • There will be games when the kids are ready, both in-house and with other nearby programs.

  • Coaches are trained, certified hockey coaches. Kids will be taught the proper techniques at every session with consistent instruction on the fundamentals.

  • The number of "puck touches" will be maximized through the use of specialized skills sessions, small area game sessions and well designed half ice drills and games.

  • Skills and philosophy generally follow the American Development Model from USA Hockey.

  • All sessions are to be held at The Campus in Downingtown.

QUESTIONS

Is there limited space in the program?

We will accept a maximum of 40 4-6 year old players.

Can parents volunteer?

We have hired on-ice assistant coaches to help ensure the best possible development experience for the kids, however, if you are interested, we would love to have parents on the ice with the development staff.  Parents volunteering will need to complete USA Hockey coaching requirements and have the necessary background checks and safe sport requirements completed. Information sessions will be held in late August or early September to review and discuss volunteer opportunities.  Please reach out to Mike Jacobs if you're interested in getting involved.

Is full equipment required?

Yes, your skater will need full ice hockey equipment.

What is the difference between WHIP and Learn to Skate/Rookies Hockey?

WHIP is a season long program designed to be the foundation for your child's hockey career.  We believe that resources and focus must be directed towards our WHIP kids (Atoms) as hockey skills and skating, like language, is acquired by kids at a rapid rate at a young age.  Learn to Skate and Rookies are each 6 week programs that give young skaters a great starting point and foundation for hockey and allow for exploration of whether hockey can be a good fit for young skaters.  If so, WHIP becomes the perfect stepping stone to travel hockey.

SCHEDULE

The proposed dates/times for this program will be announced shortly.  The program will run from early September to late February/Early March.
